James “J.J.” Martin, 77, of Crossett died July 4, 2019, at the Baptist Health Medical Center in Little Rock. He was born on January 26, 1942, to his parents Green and Ouida Miller Martin, he was raised as a Baptist and attended Mt. Pelum Baptist Church. He was a resident of Crossett most of his life and a truck driver for 25 years.
James had an outgoing personality and was one of the friendliest people you could ever meet. Someone you could always count on to be there when you needed him most.
He enjoyed telling jokes, fishing, making things with his hands, and above all, being a good father.
James is preceded in death by his parents; four sisters, Kathrine Sawyer, Christine Brown, Ernestine Brooks, and Hazeline Foster; one brother, MacArthur Martin; one grand-daughter, Jasmine Lee Turner;and one stepson, Michael Brown.
He is survived by his wife Mary Jean Martin of Crossett, one brother, Leroy Martin and wife, Aquanetta, of Crossett, two daughters, Latonya Tolefree of Opelaka, Al, and Sheila Turner and husband, Verner, of Kansas City, MO; one step daughter, Shaun Brown of Crossett; four nieces, Mary and Sandy Sawyer of Crossett, Felicia Brooks of Dallas, TX, and Evelyn Forte of Nashville, TN; one nephew, Anthony Brooks of Jacksonville, FL; four grandchildren, Jazaireel Martin, Ja'varie Turner, Tyquon Foreman, and Tytrell Foreman; and a host of other nieces and nephews.
A Homegoing Celebration will be held on July 19th at 1:00 p.m. at Medders Funeral Home Chapel, 1564 Hwy 52 W, Crossett, followed by interment at Quinn Chapel Cemetery under the direction of Medders Funeral Home.
Visitation will be July 18th 5-7 p.m. also at Medders Funeral Home.
