James Robert “Jim Bob” Godwin, 74, of Crossett, passed away on Saturday, December 25, 2021, at his home. He was born on August 14, 1947, to his parents, Eugene, and Geneva Pledger Godwin. He was a lifetime resident of Crossett, a 1966 graduate of Crossett High School, and a devoted member of Beech Street Baptist Church.
After serving honorably in the United States Army as an armored vehicle driver, Jim Bob began working for the Georgia Pacific Milk Carton Plant in 1969. Georgia Pacific later closed the plant and moved him to the tissue mill where he retired in 2012, after forty-three years
He enjoyed woodworking. He helped build the Beech Street Church fellowship hall and was a master treehouse builder who built several elaborate treehouses for his daughters and grandchildren. He was a “jack of all trades” and a hard worker who wanted to stay busy and enjoyed helping others. He often volunteered his time at the church helping with the youth, being the door greeter, and anything else that was needed.
Jim Bob was also one of the original members of the Klassy Kruzers Street Rod Club and a proud member of the Beef Trail Deer Camp. He loved to work on his street rods, hunt, and most of all, take his family on camping trips. He was a kindhearted Christian man who loved his church but especially loved his family.
He is preceded in death by his parents and leaves behind his wife, Rebecca Cash Godwin, and two daughters, Jennifer Marashi (Hamdoun) of Ramona, California, and Julie Snyder (Robert) of Russellville, Tennessee; three grandchildren, Kaylin Marashi, Bethany Snyder, and Auston Snyder; along with a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Thursday, December 30, at Beech Street Baptist Church, 500 Beech St. Crossett, with Pastor Donnie Dubose, officiating followed by interment at Pinewood Memorial Park under the direction of Medders Funeral Home.
Pallbearers are Mike Hollis, James Alan Ford, Auston Snyder, Luke Melton, Charles Noble, and Tim Stillwell. Honorary pallbearers are Red Wells and the Klassy Kruzers club members.
Visitation will be from 5:00-7:00 p.m., Wednesday, December 29, at Medders Funeral Home, 1564 Hwy 52 W, Crossett.
