James Ronald Dopson, 77, of Crossett, passed away on Friday, September 23, 2022, surrounded by his family. He was born in Huttig, Arkansas on May 8, 1945, to his parents, Jesse and Cecil Taunton Dopson. He was a Huttig High School graduate and a faithful member of First Baptist Church of Crossett
For forty years, Ronald worked for Georgia Pacific, retiring as a converting maintenance supervisor in 2005.
Ronald was ordained and served as a deacon at First Baptist Church of Huttig and Mt. Olive Baptist Church in Crossett. Serving God and the church was invariably a high priority for Ronald. He taught Sunday School and Discipleship Training at Mt. Olive Baptist Church, volunteered for mission trips, and for fourteen years, worked alongside his wife, Margie, with Operation Christmas Child. His love for helping others and doing carpentry work led Ronald to become a member of the Nailbenders for Jesus, an organization that helps build churches in Arkansas. He not only assisted them, but was known to go and help anyone in need of his talents.
Ronald enjoyed staying active in his community. While living in Huttig, he helped organize the Huttig Jaycees, later serving as president, and served on the Huttig School Board. Some of his fondest memories were the twenty years he coached the Crossett Junior Babe Ruth Baseball League. He truly felt honored to be the coach of some outstanding young men who became his friends for life, along with his fellow coaches.
Ronald was an avid bowler, a talented carpenter, and a devoted family man and leader, but most importantly, he was a child of God who cared for and loved his neighbors.
Along with his parents, he is preceded in death by four sisters, Maudine Russell, Earlene Bearden, Christine Richardson, and Hazel Kennedy.
He leaves behind his wife of fifty-eight years, Margie Hendrix Dopson of Crossett; and two sons, Brian Dopson, and Barry Dopson (Pam) both of Sterlington, LA; along with two sisters, Joanne Crowder of Southaven, MS, and Katherine Thompson of El Dorado, AR; four grandchildren, Logan, Allie, Dalton, and Brianna Dopson; and a host of nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Monday, September 26th, at First Baptist Church of Crossett, 700 Main St., with Bro. Billy Kite and Pastor Jamie Staley officiating, followed by interment at the Strong City Cemetery, in Strong, AR. under the direction of Medders Funeral Home. Pallbearers are Logan and Dalton Dopson, Lamar and Aric Bearden, Richard White, Mickey Cain, Bob Griffis, and Scotty Crowder. Honorary pallbearers will be the Claude Spainhour Sunday School Class.
Visitation will be from 1:00 – 2:00 p.m. at the church prior to the service.
