Jerald "Stumpy" Roan Obituary

Jerald G. “Stumpy” Roan, 87, of Crossett, passed away peacefully at his home on Monday, October 6, 2025.  He was born in Bastrop, LA, on October 10, 1937, and was a graduate of Bastrop High School.

He excelled as a standout athlete in football, basketball, and baseball during his high school years. After graduation, Stumpy pursued higher education at Northeast Louisiana University, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in education. He later built a long and successful career in Crossett, holding key positions with several mill supply businesses, where he was admired for his strong work ethic, reliability, and dedication.

Stumpy was a longtime member of the First Church of God in Crossett, where he served faithfully as a Sunday School teacher for many years. He was also well known for portraying meaningful roles in the church’s Live Nativity and Easter productions, sharing his faith in creative and heartfelt ways.

Faith and sports remained central in Stumpy’s life. He faithfully read his Bible each day, drawing strength and guidance from its pages, and his devotion to God shaped the way he lived and treated others. At the same time, his love for sports never faded—he played softball for many years and became a driving force in the Crossett City Softball League, which he managed through the 1970s, 80s, and 90s. A devoted LSU fan, Stumpy rarely missed a game, proudly cheering on the Tigers with the same enthusiasm he brought to every part of his life.

Known as a hardworking and kind man, Stumpy had a gift for making others feel appreciated—he always offered words of encouragement and compliments to those around him and his even temper, easygoing spirit, and gentle nature left a lasting impression on everyone he met.

He is preceded in death by his father, J.T. Roan; his mother, Rosa Roan Faller; his stepfather, Bob Faller; and three brothers, Joe, Jimmy, and John Thomas Roan.

He leaves behind his loving wife of sixty-four years, Brenda Brodnax Roan of Crossett; one son, Christopher Jerald Roan (Patti) of Crossett; and three daughters, Kim Hines (Donnie) also of Crossett, Joni Stephens of Zachary, LA, and Kelli McCabe (Jason) of Houston, TX; along with one sister, Joyce Roan of Fayetteville, AR; thirteen grandchildren, Colt and Chase Roan, LeeAnn Thurman, Candi Jerry, Ashley Harper, Chad and Cody Hines, Gregory, Alexandra, and Kenedi Stephens, Danyelle Beavers, and Makenzie and Joshua Hoff; and nine great-grandchildren, Austin Measel, Jayden and Jess Thurman, Allie Risinger, Brianna Jerry, Christopher Jett Roan, Jacey Hines, Jaxton Ferguson, and Lincoln Beavers.
