Jerald “Wayne” Haygood, 79, of Crossett, passed away peacefully on Sunday, April 10, 2022, with his family by his side. He was born on October 31, 1942, to his parents, John Wesley and Julia Booth Haygood.
He was born and raised in Enterprise, Louisiana, but he has called Crossett his home for sixty-one years. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Crossett and, in 2005, retired from Georgia Pacific after a lucrative forty-two-year career.
He was quiet and tender-hearted, would do anything for his family, and held an incredible bond with his three sons, which he always treasured.
Along with his parents, he is preceded in death by two brothers, C.J. and Larry Haygood; five sisters, Joyce Sivils, Lorraine Vallas, Ruth Evans, Faye Prince, and Cecile Anderson; and one grandson, Jerrick Sellers.
He leaves behind his wife of fifty-nine years, Linda McArthur Haygood; and three sons, Steve Haygood (Sonya), John Haygood (Terri), and Mike Haygood, all of Crossett; along with one sister, Juanita Mason of Little Rock; four grandchildren, Tiffany, Brittney, Whittney, and Lee Sellers; nine great-grandchildren, Bailey Hodge, Maddie Carter, Drayton, and Alaizia Middlebrooks, Dax Smith, Willow Sellers, Corbin Watkins, Alyssa Lambert, and Layla Sellers; and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.
A Celebration of Life Graveside Service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, April 12th, at Crossroads Cemetery in Crossett, with Pastors Jamie Staley and Danny Merriweather officiating. Honorary pallbearers will be his guitar playing friends.
For those who have difficulty standing, we encourage you to bring a lawn chair.
Visitation will be from 10:30-11:00 a.m. at the cemetery prior to the service.
Services entrusted to Medders Funeral Home of Crossett.
