Jerry Quimby Obituary

Jerry Ray Quimby, 80, of Strong, passed away on Saturday, February 12, 2022, at his home.  He was born on January 10, 1942, to his parents, Grover and Fannie Mae Tarver Quimby, and spent most of his childhood in Rayville, Louisiana and the surrounding area.

At the age of 16, he joined the United States Air Force and soon found himself in Korea.  After serving his country honorably, he was discharged and eventually began a thirty-nine-year career with Georgia Pacific, retiring as a machinist in 2007.

Jerry loved to fish, he fished year-round.  When he wasn’t fishing, he worked in his vegetable garden, tended to his bees, or read his Louis L'Amour books.

Jerry was a homebody who kept to himself.  He was honest and plain spoken and not only read his Bible daily but believed it wholeheartedly and prayed often.  He was a good husband, father, and “Grumpy” to his grandchildren and will be missed be all who knew him.

Along with his parents, he is preceded in death by one brother, Max Quimby; and four sisters, Catherine Herron, Faye Stansell, Jean Sandifer, and Nanola Dutton.

He leaves behind his wife of fifty-three years, Linda Bush Quimby; three children, Darian Ray Quimby (Lisa) of Strong, AR, Amy Quimby Morrison of Kirbyville, TX, and David Fryer also of Strong; and three sisters, Maxine Griffin (Joe) of Huntsville, AL, Linda Ringo of League City, TX, and Gail Moore (Lonnie) of Santa Fe, TX; along with three grandchildren, Shawn Marhanka, Brittany Graham,  and Keeley Quimby; three great-grandchildren, Jensen, Micah, and Aiden; and a host of nieces and nephews.

A Celebration of Life Graveside Service will be held at 11:00 a.m., on Tuesday, February 15th, at Crossroads Cemetery with Bro. Keith Smith, officiating.  Pallbearers are TJ Hardy, Phillip Morgan, Kevin Rowland, John Slater, Darian Quimby, and David Fryer.
