Jesse Walthall Obituary

Jesse Milton Walthall, 88, formerly of Crossett, passed away peacefully on Saturday, August 20, 2022.  He was born on April 17, 1934, to his parents, Ira and Mamie Moore Walthall, and grew up in the White Oak Community of Arkansas.

Jesse was a graduate of Bearden High School and served honorably in the United States Army.

In 1961, following his military service, he moved his family to Crossett and began a career as the Manager of the Crossett Tire Company, which he eventually purchased and operated for over forty years.

After selling his business, Jesse embarked on a new career and was elected as the Treasurer for the City of Crossett.  He served several years until he eventually retired in December of 2020, at the age of eighty-six.

Jesse lived happily by simply putting things in the right order, God, family, work, and fishing.  No matter the season, Jesse’s passion for fishing was incessant, and sharing this with others brought him even greater joy.  Mowing the lawn and doing yard work also brought him happiness.

It was unmistakable to all who knew him that his faith in God was unwavering and the foundation for everything else in his life.  He was honored to be a member of the First Assembly of God Church family and proudly served in numerous capacities, including music leader, Sunday School Superintendent, and deacon for over sixty years, among others.

Jesse was a gentle, tender-hearted soul who loved others as God wanted, always remaining vigilant for opportunities to share the gospel of Christ with others who may be lost.

He is preceded in death by his loving wife of sixty-five years, Betty Perry Walthall, four sisters, Helen Mosley, Dorothy Quarles, Gladys Walthall, and Ruby Mosley: and one grandson, Jonathan Wallace

He leaves behind one son, Terry Walthall (Anna) of Texarkana, AR; and two daughters, Lisa Wallace (Don) of Hamburg, and Jan Stephenson (Bryan) of Rison; along with six brothers, Bill Walthall (Jeanie) of Fordyce, AR, Don Walthall of Heber Springs, AR, and Pete Walthall (Pat), Bud Walthall (Linda), James Walthall, and Johnny Walthall all of Bearden, AR; and three sisters, Thelma Evans and Barbara Tidwell, also of Bearden, and Melba Hunt of Fordyce; eight grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Monday, August 22nd, at the First Assembly of God Church, 1500 Parkway Drive, in Crossett, with Bro. Kenneth Neal, Bro. Terry Walthall, and Bro. Bob Perry, officiating followed by interment at Crossroads Cemetery under the direction of Medders Funeral Home, if weather permits.

Pallbearers are Jesse and Will Stephenson, Sam May, Kaden Branscum, Mark Hawkins, Billy Reynolds, and Josh Walthall.

Honorary pallbearers are Cecil Walthall and the City of Crossett employees.
