Jesse Lemoyne Putney, 67, of Crossett passed away Friday, August 2, 2019, at the Jefferson Regional Medical Center in Pine Bluff. He was born on February 4, 1952, in Whites, Arkansas, to his parents George and Norma Johnson Putney. He was in the 1970 class of T.W. Daniels and served honorably in the United States Army as a Chemical Equipment Repairman. Following discharge, he began a career at the Georgia Pacific Chemical Plant where he retired as a supervisor after 35 years.
Jesse was a very talented man who loved the outdoors and was good at just about everything he did. He was a great fisherman, a hunter, and a mechanic and enjoyed teaching his children, nieces, and nephews his talents. He could also cut hair, paint, and play guitar. He loved music and was a huge Elvis fan.
He pastored several churches over the years and studied his bible often. He was extremely generous to his church and his community and always patient and supportive with his family.
He is preceded in death by his parents and wife of forty-one years, Ruby Jewel Paskel Putney; and four siblings, Bertha Jordan, Ola L. Putney, Madelene Putney, and Artrice James Putney.
He is survived by his five children, Scottie L. Putney (Renda) of Minden, LA, Shawn Knight Beasley (Wayne) of Oakland, CA, and Stedrick Putney, Sheldon “Peanut” Putney (Ellen Marie), and Seymour “Duke” Putney all of Crossett; four siblings, Norma J. Love of Crossett, Georgiann Curry of Rockford, IL, Ruth Pulliam (Gene) of Auburn Hills, MI, Marion Putney (Linda) of Rockford, IL; and a nephew who was raised as a brother, Glenn Antonio Newton (Mildred) of Crossett, along with 13 grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews.
A Homegoing Celebration will be held at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, August 10th at the Living Word Church of God in Christ, 2109 S. Main St., Crossett, with Elder Greg Bridges officiating, followed by interment at Ryles Chapel Cemetery under the direction of Medders Funeral Home. Pallbearers are Cedric Tucker, Lawrence Tucker, Steven Paskel, Troy Paskel, Gregory Sledge, and Zachery Smedley. Honorary pallbearers are the T.W. Daniel Class of 1970.
Visitation will be from 7:00-9:00 p.m., Friday, August 9th at Medders Funeral Home, 1564 Hwy 52 W, in Crossett.
