Jimmy Earl Carter

Jimmy Earl Carter, 81, of Crossett, passed away on June 13, 2026.  Born on April 27, 1945, He was a lifelong resident of Crossett, a 1964 graduate of Crossett High School, and a member of the First Church of God.

Jimmy proudly served his country in the United States Army Reserve before beginning a career with Georgia Pacific. Through thirty-seven years of faithful service and hard work, he built a respected career and retired as a wood scaler.

Jimmy's priorities were simple: God, family, the outdoors, and music. He loved spending time hunting, fishing, and enjoying nature, and he found just as much joy with a guitar in his hands and a song in his heart.

His other talents included drawing, cooking, and woodworking. He was especially skilled at building cabinets and creating projects with his hands. Creative and imaginative, he had a gift for visualizing modifications to things others could not see. He was a deep thinker and an idealist who approached life with curiosity and purpose.

Jimmy will be remembered as a kind, quiet, and genuinely funny man whose gentle spirit left a lasting impression on everyone he met. A true gentleman, he carried himself with humility, compassion, and empathy. He was the kind of person who listened carefully, offered encouragement freely, and treated others with respect and dignity.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Watson and Dorothy Smith Carter; two brothers, McCoy and Billy Carter; two sisters, Doris Arnold and Ann Courson; and one grandchild, Aubrey Carter.

He leaves behind his beloved wife of fifty-nine years,  Jerri Gwen Ford Carter; one daughter, Tami Carter of Crossett; one son, Jim Carter (Becky) of Fayetteville, AR; and one brother, Ken Carter of Crossett; along with six grandchildren, Bradyn Sled (Rylan), Emory Webb (Lucas), and Avery, Colby, Kylie, and Crosby Carter; two great-grandchildren, Clara Belle Webb and Carter Reed Sled; and one precious great-granddaughter, Aubrey Webb, who is expected to arrive in the coming months.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, June 17th, at the First Church of God, 1501 Main St, in Crossett, with Pastor Mike Neal, officiating, followed by interment at Carter Cemetery under the direction of Medders Funeral Home.  Pallbearers are Danny Carter, Jim Sled, Kevin Ross, Shawn Barnett, Bobby Bond, and Lee Edwards.  Honorary Pallbearers are Jason Sasser, Chris Croswell, Dale Hester, Danny Smith, Anthony Johnson, Chic Sipes, and James Miller.

Visitation will be from 1:00-2:00 p.m., at the church prior to the service.
