John Philbert Bowers, 62, of Beekman, Louisiana, passed away on Wednesday, February 18, in Malvern, Arkansas. He was born on March 6, 1963, in Port Sulphur, Louisiana, at Plaquemines Parish General Hospital, to Melvin John Bowers and Nelwyn Linda Buras Bowers.
John took pride in whatever he did and was a lover of all genres of music. Some of his closest friends lovingly knew him as “Jawn”. He was a true sports fan, and three of his favorites were the LSU Tigers, New Orleans Saints, and the Dallas Cowboys. He loved animals, playing bingo, fishing, and tending to his flower beds. One of his fondest memories was working alongside his dad on a commercial fishing boat, moments he cherished throughout his life. John also enjoyed Cajun dancing, was lighthearted in spirit, and truly loved to have fun.
He is preceded in death by his father, Melvin John Bowers; his paternal grandparents David and Annette Bowers; and his maternal grandparents, Philbert and Nellie Buras.
John is survived by his mother, Nelwyn Bowers of Beekman, Louisiana; one sister, Nell Landry (Scott) of Minden, Louisiana; two nephews, Seth Landry (Kayla) of Haughton, Louisiana, and Jake Landry (Allison) of Monroe, Louisiana; and two great nieces, Nora Landry and Aubrey Kate Landry.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at Medders Funeral Home Chapel on Friday, February 27, 2026, at 10:00 AM, with Bro. Taylor Freeland officiating, followed by interment at Stevenson Cemetery in Beekman, Louisiana.
Visitation will be from 6:00 to 7:00 PM, Thursday, February 26 at Medders Funeral Home of Crossett.
