John Travis Cope, 85, of Hamburg, passed away on Monday, January 2, 2023. He was born March 3, 1937, to his parents, John and Leona Burnett Cope. Travis was a 1955 graduate of Crossett High School and a member of Hollis Chapel Baptist Church.
Travis served honorably in the U.S. Army National Guard, was a member of the Ashley County Cattleman’s Association, and retired after twenty-three years with Georgia Pacific.
Travis was a hardworking Christian family man who enjoyed raising cattle, riding his four-wheeler, squirrel hunting, and hog trapping. He was also an amazing gardener and was especially proud of his home-grown tomatoes.
He is preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Margaret Fleming.
He leaves to cherish his memory, his loving and devoted wife of sixty-three years, Clara Emogene Cope; two sons, Allen Cope and Lavon Cope (Felicia); and one daughter, Karen Brunson (Johnnie) all of Hamburg; along with two sisters, Bonnie Farmer (Glen) of Crossett, and Lynda Perdue of Beebe, AR; nine grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Friday, January 6th, at Hollis Chapel Baptist Church, Ashley Rd 17 in Hamburg with Bro. Joey Meredith officiating, followed by interment at Hollis Chapel Garden under the direction of Medders Funeral Home. Pallbearers are J.B. Cope, David Kemp, Johnnie Brunson, Brian Hargrove, Charlie Lane, and Coleman Matthews.
Honorary pallbearer is Charles Smith.
Visitation will be held Thursday, January 5th from 4:00 – 6:00 p.m. at Medders Funeral Home, 1564 Hwy 52 W, in Crossett.
