Joy Ward-Meredith Obituary

Joy Jane Ward Meredith, 71, of Crossett, passed away on Sunday, February 9, 2020, at the St. Francis Medical Center in Monroe, LA.

She was born in Ralls, Texas, on October 17, 1948, to her parents, Floyd and Mattie Jane McDuff Patterson. She and was raised in Vivian, Louisiana, where she graduated from North Caddo High School. In the mid-’80s, Joy moved to Crossett and became a member of Mt. Olive Baptist Church.

Over the years, Joy worked several secretarial jobs, sold Avon, and sung in the church choir. She enjoyed being a member of the “Young at Heart” Senior Adult Group, going on her many shopping trips, and collecting cat memorabilia.

Along with her parents, she is preceded in death by her first husband, Don Ward.

She is survived by her husband of eleven years, George Meredith of Crossett; two sons, Scotti Ward (Staci) of Crossett, and Chris Ward (Mallie) of Hamburg; one stepdaughter, Kathy Murphy (Hollis Wilson) of Crossett; one stepson, Steve Meredith (Sarah) of Epping, UK; two sisters, Iris Hughes (Garland) of Sarepta, LA, and Edna Sanders of Vivian, LA; and one brother, Edwin Patterson of Coushatta, LA; along with three grandchildren, Andrew Ward (Kaci), Cameron Ward, and Ashton Ward; and one great-grandchild, Foster Ward.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, February 13, 2020, at the Mt. Olive Baptist Church, 1533 Hwy 52 W, in Crossett with Pastor Eric Hodge, officiating. Pallbearers are Pat Hughes, Devin Hughes, Brad Hughes, Rusty McCone, Tony Hendrix, and Mike Shirley. Honorary Pallbearers are John Pennington, Bill Rodgers, and Larry Land.  Interment will be at Flat Creek Cemetery, under the direction of Medders Funeral Home.

Visitation will be from 1:00-2:00 p.m., Thursday, prior to the service.
