Joyce Carter Obituary

Joyce Collins Carter, 83, of Hamburg, passed away Sunday, October 4, 2020, at her home.  She was born in Bastrop, LA, on April 14, 1937, to her parents, Oren and Flossie Boyd Collins, and was a graduate of Bastrop High School.

In 1957, she married Treswell Carter, Sr. and shared the next 63 years with him and the family they created together.  She did secretarial work for various companies, including the wood-molding business she and her husband operated for several years.

After retirement, she continued to work side by side with Treswell, growing and selling vegetables and caring for him as she had vowed to do so many years before.

With a natural grace, she wore many hats for her family.  She was the matriarch, the caretaker, the cook, the supportive wife, mother, and grandmother, and many others.

Joyce was a crafter.  There was virtually nothing she couldn’t make.  Among her many talents was crocheting and cooking, which she often did for anyone who visited.

Along with her parents, she is preceded in death by two sisters, Mary Roberson and Martha White, and one brother, Jim Collins.

Besides her best friend and husband, Treswell Carter, Sr., she leaves one daughter, Rebecca Davis (Raymond) of Hamburg; two sons, Treswell Carter, Jr. (Bobbie) of Fouke, AR, and George Michael Carter (Debra) of Hamburg; six grandchildren, Jennifer Breedlove (Tommy) of Fouke, AR, Chris King (Jake) of Crossett, Tasha Wright (Aaron) also of Crossett, and Crystal Smith (Lance), Frank Davis (Kelsey), and Jason Whitaker (Ashley) all of Hamburg; one brother, Kenneth Collins (Jeanette) of Tyler, TX; and a host of great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.

A Private Celebration of Life Service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, October 7, at Medders Funeral Home, 1564 Hwy 52 W, Crossett, with Bro. Jamie Staley, officiating, followed by interment at Carter Cemetery under the direction of Medders Funeral Home.  Pallbearers are JR Carter, Frank Davis, Johnie Stewart, Randy Abernathy, Gus Lofton, Lance Smith, Aaron Wright, Jake King, and Craig “Bubbie” Mashburn.

Visitation will be held from 6:00-8:00 p.m., Tuesday, October 6, at the funeral home.
