Karen Sivek Obituary

Karen Lee Sivek, 60, of Crossett, died Sunday, July 10, 2016, at home.  She was born on October 19, 1955, to Earl and Ruth Griffin at the New London Naval Base in Connecticut.  She spent most of her childhood in Gilford, CT and earned her Accounting degree from Palomar College in San Marcos, CA.  Karen worked as a bookkeeper for many companies over the years, and eventually became the Secretary for Grace Christian Fellowship Church where she was an active member and beloved Sunday school teacher for the 4-5 year olds.  She also worked at the Boys and Girls Club of Crossett and assisted with the thrift store where her passion for helping others made her an invaluable asset to their organization and the community.  Karen loved nature and flowers, bowling with her league, and reading.  She not only worked as the housekeeper at the Paul Sullins Library, but she volunteered with their Summer reading program.

She is preceded in death by one brother, Craig Griffin; and one sister-in-law, Holly Griffin.  She is survived by one daughter, Jessie Lynn Sivek-Candejas of Taholah, WA; three grandchildren, Desiree Sivek, Bryan Sivek-Vargas, and Lillyanna Sivek-Vargas all of Crossett; her parents, Earl Daniel Griffin of Spanish Springs, NV and Ruth Elizabeth MacDonald Griffin of Reno, NV; three brothers, David Griffin of Hamden, CT, Mark Griffin and wife Cindy of Reno, NV, and Thomas Griffin and wife Jenn Wiley of Chicago, IL; two sisters-in-law, Betsy Corcoran and husband Kevin of Widner, FL, and Ellen Weaver of Vista, CA; and a church family who loved her dearly.

A Funeral service will be held at 2:30 p.m., Saturday, July 16th, at Grace Christian Fellowship Church, 912 Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Dr., in Crossett with Bro. Scott Wheeler officiating, followed by an interment at Crossroads Cemetery under the direction of Medders Funeral Home of Crossett.  Pallbearers will be Damon Dean, Mark Griffin, Josh Hartley, Thomas Griffin, Alan Brewer, George Thurman, Jojo Monroe, and Kyle Griffis.  Honorary pallbearers will be David Griffin and the “Men of Grace Christian Fellowship”.
