Linda Murphy Obituary

Linda Carolyn Murphy, 82, a lifelong resident of Crossett, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, October 9, 2024. Born in Monticello, Arkansas, on June 4, 1942, Linda was the daughter of the late Doyle and Mabel Hunsaker Chance and was a 1960 graduate of Crossett High School.

Linda was a dedicated and hardworking woman who spent over thirty years at Georgia Pacific. She began her career humbly in the mail room and, through perseverance and determination, retired in 2003 as the administrative assistant to the plant manager of Extrusion. She also worked for over twenty years at Stage Department Store, where her friendly demeanor and commitment to service made her a cherished asset.

Linda's faith was the cornerstone of her life and before her health declined, she attended Beech Street Baptist Church. In her spare time, she enjoyed reading books, working in her yard, and tending to her beautiful flower beds. Her love for cooking brought family and friends together, creating countless cherished memories around the dinner table.

Known for her generous spirit, especially toward her beloved grandchildren, Linda's world revolved around them, and they adored her in return. Her love was big, and her loyalty was steadfast. Linda was independent, determined, and often delightfully stubborn, she faced life’s challenges head-on, embodying the values of hard work and resilience.

She is preceded in death by her parents and leaves behind one daughter, Karen Lynn Murphy Holliday of White House, TN; one son, Jeffrey Alan Murphy (Leigh) of Crossett; and two siblings, Peggy Nell Wallace of Moberly, MO, and Danny Webb Chance (Rikki) of Huntsville, MO; along with her best friend for over seventy years, Annie Ruth Pitzer of Crossett; seven grandchildren, William Coby Holliday (Tabitha), Jonathan Craig Holliday (Sylea), Christopher Chance Holliday (Makalea Hicks), Benjamin Cade Holliday, Evan Aubrey Murphy (Breanna), Mary Grace Madison Murphy “Maddie”, and Edward Lee Meadows; one great-grandchild, Aubrey Jordan Murphy; and a host of nieces and nephews.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 12:30 p.m., Friday, October 11th, at Medders Funeral Home, 1564 Hwy 52 W, in Crossett, with Pastors Donnie Dubose and Chris Sexton, officiating, followed by interment at Holly Springs Cemetery in Star City, AR.  Pallbearers are Coby, Craig, Cade, and Christopher Holliday, Evan Murphy, and Edward Meadows, along with Terry Pitzer as honorary pallbearer.

Visitation will be from 11:30-12:30 p.m., Friday, at the funeral home prior to the service.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
