Lisa McCaughan Obituary

Lisa George McCaughan, 64, of Crossett, Arkansas, passed away on April 10, 2025, in Monticello, Arkansas. She was born on December 20, 1960, to Derrell George and Sylvia Hendrix.

Lisa grew up in Missoula, Montana, and graduated from Sentinel High School in 1979. Following the passing of her beloved uncle, Cordell Barnett, Lisa moved back to Crossett to care for his wife and Lisa's cherished aunt, Remona Barnett Hisaw. It was in Crossett that Lisa met the love of her life, Russell "Rusty" Mccaughan. Their bond was instant and enduring-they were married just 11 months later in 1982 and shared nearly 43 wonderful years together.

Lisa worked at Economy Fire and Casualty Insurance until its closure, after which she pursued and earned a Master's Degree in Library Science from Southern Arkansas University in Magnolia. Her passion for knowledge and helping others led her to a 27-year teaching career in South Arkansas, including time at Strong and Crossett Public Schools. Her students and colleagues remember her as a dedicated educator with a love for learning and a heart for service.

Lisa was a woman of many talents and interests. She was an avid reader, a gifted writer, and a skilled crocheter. She had a deep love for music and taught herself to play both the guitar and piano. Lisa also enjoyed watching cooking videos and relaxing on her front porch. Her sense of humor and joyful laugh brought warmth to everyone around her. Above all, Lisa loved her family deeply and unconditionally.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Derrell George and Sylvia Hendrix; her aunt, Remona Barnett Hisaw; and her uncle, Cordell Barnett.

Left to cherish her memory are her husband, Russell "Rusty" McCaughan of Crossett; her son, Russell Brandon McCaughan of Crossett; her daughter, Cheyenne McCaughan (Matt) of Farmerville, Louisiana; and her two treasured grandchildren, Russell Colton Zavala and Selena Zavala.

A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Monday, April 14, 2025, at South Main Baptist Church in Crossett with Bro. Danny Merriweather and Bro. Brad Savage officiating. Visitation will be from 1:00 p.m. until the time of service. Arrangements are under the direction of Medders Funeral Home of Crossett.
