Marjorie Ruth (Smith) Nolan Upshaw

Marjorie Ruth Nolan Upshaw, 86, of Crossett, passed away peacefully on Saturday, May 13, 2023, at her home.  She was born on April 27, 1937, to her parents, Homer Clifton and Linnie Rice Smith, was a lifelong resident of Ashley County, and a member of North Crossett First Baptist Church.

Marjorie was a talented gardener and enjoyed the serenity of being outside working in her yard.  She was an accomplished pianist, a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and sister in Christ, and she will be dearly missed by all who knew her.

Along with her parents, she is preceded in death by her first husband, Frank Nolan; one son, Kevin Wayne Nolan; one brother, Nelson Smith; and one sister, Marie Smith.

She leaves behind her husband of seventeen years, Johnny Upshaw, of Crossett; daughter, Sherri Martin (Keith) also of Crossett; son, Garry Nolan (Donna) of Springdale, AR; and stepson, Joe Upshaw (Sam) of Crossett; along with six grandchildren, Shaun Martin (Brittany), Kevin Martin (Anna), Kelly Savage, Hayley Hayes (Mason), Hannah Nolan, and Emily Ridgel; and fourteen great-grandchildren.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 10:00 a.m., on Wednesday, May 17th, at the North Crossett First Baptist Church, 1035 Hwy 133 N, Crossett, with Pastors Garrett Fox and Robin Allen, officiating, followed by interment at the Hughes Chapel Cemetery in Beekman, LA.  Pallbearers are Mason Hayes, Blake Brizzolara, Shaun Martin, Kevin Martin, Cayson Martin, and Bryce Martin.  Honorary pallbearers are Edgar Haynie, Lamar Hill, Gayle Anders, Ervin Rodgers, Danny Smith, Al Rea, and Chris Smith.

Visitation will be from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Tuesday at Medders Funeral Home, 1564 Hwy 52 W, in Crossett.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Marjorie’s honor to the North Crossett First Baptist Church Building Fund.
