Martha Jane Smith, 86, of Crossett, passed away on Tuesday, June 6, 2023. She was born in Dermott, AR on September 8, 1936. She was a lifelong resident of Crossett and a faithful member of the Presbyterian Church of Crossett.
Graduating from Crossett High School in 1954, she made lasting memories as the former Termite Queen and cheerleader, radiating energy and enthusiasm wherever she went.
Martha found solace and strength in her relationship with God, actively participating in the church community, serving as a session member and elder with her husband, Charlie. She was also a devoted prayer partner and member of various Bible study groups, sharing her wisdom and love of the Scriptures with others.
As a homemaker, Martha embraced her role as a wife, mother, and grandmother with unparalleled devotion. Her family was her greatest joy, and she was their biggest cheerleader in every aspect of their lives. Martha's selflessness, nurturing spirit, unwavering support, and love for God created a solid foundation for her family, fostering a sense of love and unity that will forever be cherished.
Her passion for helping others extended beyond her family. She dedicated her time and efforts to the Greater Crossett Area Food Pantry, ensuring that those in need received the support and nourishment they required.
One of Martha's most memorable qualities was her infectious laugh and radiant smile. Her genuine warmth drew people to her, and she had a remarkable ability to make those around her feel loved and valued. Martha's light shone brightly as a child of God, illuminating the lives of everyone fortunate enough to know her.
She is preceded in death by her husband of fifty-eight years, Charles “Charlie” Smith; birth mother, Orlando Jackson Risher; and parents, William Henry and Pauline Risher; along with sister, Nancy Nason; one brother and sister-in-law, Joe and Hazel Risher; and sister-in-law, Betty Goodwin
She is survived by one son, Patrick Smith of Monroe, LA; two daughters, Sarah Smith Tucker (Jim) of La Porte, TX, and Toni Smith Killian (Glen) of West Monroe, LA; one brother, Charles Goodwin of Crossett; and one sister, Peggy Walpole (Bob) of Houston, TX; along with five grandchildren, Kemp Tucker (Rocky), Katie Killian Powell (Jared), Grant Tucker (Bailey Baker, fiancée), Alex Smith, and Kristin Killian; and four great-grandchildren, Claire, Adeline, Daisy, and River Jane Tucker.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, June 10th, at Medders Funeral Home, 1564 Hwy 52 W, in Crossett, with Pastor Jim Tucker, officiating, followed by interment at Crossroads Cemetery under the direction of Medders Funeral Home. Pallbearers are Grant Tucker, Kemp Tucker, Mark Risher, Glen Killian, Jared Powell, Kenny Killian, and Greg Sivils. Honorary pallbearers are Kevin Medlin, Baker Coulter, Jerry Brantley, Charles Goodwin, Doyle Blankenship, and Pastor Lindle Stewart.
Visitation will be from 1:00-2:00 p.m. prior to the service.
