Mary Jane Perry Lofton, 82, of Crossett, passed away on Friday, December 31, 2021, peacefully at her home. She was born on November 27, 1939,to her parents, James Walter and Eula Orene Hicks Perry in Ashley County, Arkansas.
In 1957, Mary graduated from Drew Central High School and then moved to Morgan City, LA to start a career as a telephone operator. There she was introduced to her future husband, Lawrence Clay Lofton Sr., and they were married in Reno, NV on August 30, 1958. She spent the next few years of her life, raising a military family, and traveling the world as a Navy wife.
After Lawrence retired from the military in 1976, they moved to Crossett and made it their home. Mary worked for Altel Telephone Company as a local operator for many years, and then later graduated from Forrest Echoes in 1994 as an L.P.N.
She enjoyed sewing and making quilt tops for family and friends, but especially loved spending time with her family. She will be forever missed by all who knew her.
Along with her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, Lawrence Clay Lofton, Sr.; and two brothers, James O. Perry, and Charles F. Perry.
She leaves behind two daughters; Karen L. Saxton (Joe) of Zachary LA., and Lori L. Palculict of Crossett; one son, Lawrence C. "Clay" Lofton, Jr. of Crossett; three brothers, Bob Perry (Shirley), Jessie Wayne Perry (Charlene), and Carl Edward Perry; one sister, Sharon Kay Reynolds (Charlie); nine grandchildren, Jay Saxton, Ashley Doty, Trent Saxton (Brittany), Rebecca Cobb, Amanda Bowden, April Gentry, Gregory Palculict, Augustus “Gus” Lofton (Courtney) and Brady Lofton; thirteen great-grandchildren; one special friend, Janice Mercer; and a host of nephews, nieces and friends.
Graveside services will be held on Monday, January 3. 2022, at 10:00 am at Crossroads Cemetery with Rev. Ronnie Lofton officiating under the direction of Medders Funeral Home of Crossett. Pallbearers are Lawrence C. Lofton, Jr., Joe W. Saxton , Jr., Joe W. Saxton III, Lawrence “Trent” Saxton, Gus Lofton, Brady Lofton and Greg Palculict.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in honor of Blayton Craig.
