Mary McCormick Obituary

Mary Ruth McCormick, 60, of Crossett, passed away on Friday, December 14, 2018, at the Baptist Health Medical Center in Little Rock.  She was born on April 1, 1958, to her parents, Oliver and Ira Land White and was an active member of North Crossett First Baptist Church.  As the fifth and final child in the family, Mary was blessed with much older siblings who loved and enjoyed caring for her.

In 1976, she graduated from Crossett High School with honors and soon married her classmate and sweetheart, since 10th grade, Scott McCormick.  Over the years, Mary held many titles including a daughter, sister, mom, and Sunday School teacher, but never liked being referred to as a policeman’s wife, or the mayor’s wife, instead she enjoyed just being, “Scott’s wife”.

She later returned to school at the University of Arkansas at Monticello and earned an associate degree in early childhood education.  She became a home visitor for the HIPPY program and eventually became the coordinator.

She loved playing bunko, doing yard work, watching the birds, and playing chicken foot with her family, and was a prayer partner and dear friend to many.  She would often share scripture, and her love for the Lord was evident.  On Friday, wearing the smile we all knew, she had the honor of meeting Jesus face to face.

She is preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, Ira Jake White, and Walter Oliver White; her in-laws, Marshall Scott and Yvonne McCormick; and two nephews, Brian and Patrick Johnson.

She is survived by her husband, Marshall Scott McCormick, II of Crossett; two sons, Sean McCormick of Dumas and Wesley McCormick also of Crossett; two sisters, Rose Sayger and husband, Buster, of Hamburg, and Sarah Hensley and husband, Phil, of Cedar Creek, TX, one grandson, Nick McCormick; and a sister and brother-in-law, Stacy and Gary Johnson all of Crossett; special friends, David and Dixie Talbert, John and Jenny Allen, Charles Noble, and Jackie Brockwell; and a host of nieces and nephews who were all very special to her.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, December 18th at North Crossett First Baptist Church, 1035 Hwy 133, Crossett, with Pastors Robin Allen and David Talbert officiating, followed by interment at Pinewood Memorial Park under the direction of Medders Funeral Home. Pallbearers are John Allen, Charles Noble, Drew Talbert, Gale Anders, Larry Cantley, and Tommy Sturgeon.  Honorary pallbearers are members of Mary's Sunday School Class.

Visitation will be from 6:00-8:00 p.m., Monday at Medders Funeral Home, 1564 Hwy 52 W, in North Crossett.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the North Crossett First Baptist Church building fund.
