Mary Joy Knight, 79, of Crossett, passed away on Friday, April 8, 2022, at her home. On June 12, 1942, she was born to the late Roy and Reba Montgomery Huskey in Wilmar, Arkansas. Joy and her six siblings grew up on a farm in Wilmar. She graduated from Wilmar High School and was a member of the North Crossett First Baptist Church.
Being the eldest daughter, she learned to cook at an early age and helped care for the younger children. Joy was an incredible cook and especially enjoyed baking cakes and pies and was also known for her amazing peanut brittle. Whether it was whipping up a meal for her family, her church family, or a dear neighbor in need, she always included the special ingredient that made each dish taste so much better, her love.
Joy was meticulous, from her housekeeping to her clothes, incredibly funny, and she could easily talk to anyone. For several years, she and her husband, Hubert, traveled the country with his job, and she made friends effortlessly wherever she went. Of all the topics to discuss, her beloved grandchildren were, by far, her favorite.
A day of working in her flowers and mowing the lawn followed up by resting on the porch with her husband and fur babies watching the birds and squirrels feed was, to Joy, a good day.
Along with her parents, she is preceded in death by one brother, Joe Huskey.
She leaves behind her husband of thirty-two years, Hubert Knight; one son, Ryan Young of Wilmar; and one daughter, Robbin Curry (Rodney) of Woodlawn; two extra children, Teryl McCalmon (Gary) and Rob Knight (Jami); and six siblings, Dona Schulte, Betty Pace, Kathy Johnston, Roy Wayne Huskey, and Billy Huskey; along with six grandchildren, Kylee Caldwell, Kensley, Tarren, and T.J. Young, and Katie and Jonathan Curry; one great-granddaughter, Lennon Caldwell, and a host of nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of Life Graveside Service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Sunday, April 10th at the Egypt Baptist Church Cemetery in Milo, with Bro. Doney Blackerby, officiating. Bringing your lawn chair is encouraged.
Visitation will be from 1:00-2:00 p.m., at the cemetery prior to the service.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
