Maxine Hendrix Obituary

Maxine Pendergrass Hendrix, age 84, of Crossett, passed away peacefully on Monday, June 15, 2026.

A lifelong resident of Crossett, Maxine was born on January 14, 1942, and was a graduate of Crossett High School and later earned an associate’s degree from the El Dorado Vo-Tech Nursing School. She began her career as a Licensed Practical Nurse in 1976 and spent many years caring for others while working for Dr. Luis Garcia and in the Intensive Care Unit at Ashley County Medical Center. Nursing was a rewarding calling to Maxine, and she considered many of her coworkers among her dearest friends.

A faithful member of the Community of Christ Church, Maxine lived her life guided by her love for Christ and her belief in treating others as she wished to be treated.

She enjoyed painting, traveling, listening to music, and playing dominoes with friends. As an exceptional cook, she was especially known for her chocolate pies and banana puddings, which were favorites among family and friends.

Family was at the center of Maxine's life. She shared a close bond with her two sisters and was deeply devoted to her family, cherishing every moment spent with those she loved.

Maxine will be remembered for her unwavering faith, caring heart, gentle spirit, and the love she freely shared with family, friends, patients, and everyone whose life she touched.

She is preceded in death by her husband, James Edward Hendrix; her parents, Edward and Betty Louise Holton Pendergrass; one daughter, Carla Hendrix; one brother, Paul Pendergrass; and two sisters, Mary Hoff and Nancy Thompson.

She leaves behind one son, Jim Hendrix (Jimmie Ann) of Crossett; one brother in-law, Ernie Thompson also of Crossett; three grandchildren, Mike Carpenter and Jamie Rice (Stacey) both of Crossett, and Barbie Townsend (Billy) of Little Rock; along with three great-grandchildren, Jesse Harrington (Brittani), Adam Townsend (Courtney), and Luke Wallesch (Lydia); one great-great-granddaughter, Ada Harrington; and a host of nieces and nephews.
