Michael Griffith Obituary

Michael James Griffith, 69, of Hamburg, passed away on Thursday, December 7, 2023.  He was born on October 9, 1954, to his parents, Earl and Dorothy Collins Griffith.  He was a 1972 graduate of Hamburg High School, a lifelong resident of Ashley County, and a faithful member of Promise Land Missionary Baptist Church.

Following high school, Mike went on to dedicate thirty-six years of his life to Georgia Pacific, eventually retiring in 2008 as a shift supervisor.

Whether it was fixing a broken appliance or giving his beloved old lawn mower a little TLC, Mike was always tinkering or rigging something showcasing his resourcefulness and problem-solving skills.

His passions extended to the great outdoors, where he found peace and joy in fishing and the camaraderie of a good golf game.

At church, Mike was not only a member but a pillar of strength.  Throughout his life, he volunteered in various roles, including serving as the sound man and dedicating his time as a Sunday School teacher and role model for the Jr. High boys.

Mike will forever be remembered as an honest, loving, and faithful man with a kind and gentle spirit.  His outspoken nature was well balanced by his role as a peacemaker and caregiver, proudly caring for his mother and grandchildren whenever needed and spoiling his wife consistently.  His love for his family was unconditional, and he leaves behind a treasure trove of memories that will forever be cherished.

In addition to his many titles, Mike was a devoted husband, father, son, and brother, holding a special place in his heart for his favorite title, “Grumps.”  He embraced this role with enthusiasm, leaving an indelible mark on the hearts of his grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his parents, and leaves behind his wife of forty-five years, Brenda Braswell Griffith; and four children, Jonathan Griffith (Kiri), and Mandi Brookings (Lance) both of Crossett, Michael Paul Griffith of Hamburg, and Matthew Griffith (Hope) of Longmont, CO; along with one brother, Charles Stell (Lynda) of Crossett; one sister, Joyce Ann Rush (Jim) of Hamburg; eleven grandchildren, Briana, Chance, Crenshaw, Jacey, Rylie, Braxton, Blake, Brynlie, Taylor, Maddie, and Bethany; two bonus grandchildren, Maverick and Will; and five great-grandchildren, Vander, GraceLynn, Myles, Tatum, and Kylen.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, December 12th, at Promise Land Missionary Baptist Church, 765 Ashley Rd 70, Hamburg, AR, with Pastors Josh Luellen and John Marlar, officiating, followed by interment at the Promise Land Cemetery under the direction of Medders Funeral Home.  Pallbearers are Chance Sivils, Regis Crenshaw, Lane Culp, Tim Collins, Derek Peters, Brandon Kelley, Patrick Kelley, Grant Collins, and Josh Martin.  Honorary pallbearers are Blake and Braxton Griffith and Will Patrick.

Visitation will be from 5:00-7:00 p.m., Monday, at Medders Funeral Home.
