Minnie Thompson Obituary

Minnie Ruth Thompson, 80, of Crossett, passed away on Saturday, March 13, 2021, at her home.  On November 3, 1940, she was born to her parents, Floyd Dewey and Lula Harrell Pickle, and was a lifelong resident of Crossett.  She was a member of the North Crossett First Baptist Church and a proud member of the Eastern Star Order.

Along with working for the Crossett Leisure Lodge, Minnie worked for the Area Agency on Aging for over fifteen years delivering meals to senior citizens. Even after her retirement, she continued providing meals to whomever she could.

Minnie loved people, and cooking for them was her way of expressing her love.  Her family and her church loved her cooking, and even though she did not measure anything, it was always delicious, and everyone knew she had one rule in her kitchen, “no nibbles.”

Along with cooking, gardening was another of Minnie’s talents. She could rehabilitate just about any plant and especially loved caring for her roses.  She also enjoyed camping, fishing, and just being “Mamaw” to all her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and the many neighborhood kids that loved her.  Minnie was loved by everyone and was quite proficient in talking.  A common saying in her family was, “telephone, telegraph, and teleminnie.”

Along with her parents, she is preceded in death by her first husband, L.D. “Pete” Atkins; one daughter, Glenda Kay Williams; two sons, Tommy and Jimmy Atkins; and two brothers, Harvey and Benjamin Pickle.

She is survived by her husband of nineteen years, Bobby Lane Thompson; two daughters, Nita Ann Curtis and Martha Jo Locke; one son, Ken Wayne Atkins; and one sister, Nancy Gray, all of Crossett; along with two brothers, James Alton Pickle and wife, Barbara, of Milton, FL, and Jimmy Pickle of Crossett; nine grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; and a special fur baby, Benji.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 10:00 a.m.., Thursday, March 18, at Medders Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Robin Allen officiating, followed by interment at Lakewood Cemetery under the direction of Medders Funeral Home.  Pallbearers are Colby Edmonds, Ryan Hopkins, Dean Morgan, Michael Collins, Bill Lum, Josh Locke, Grant Carter and Carl Gray.
