Myron "Jay" Schlesier Obituary

Myron “Jay” Lynn Schlesier, 62, of Monticello, formerly of Crossett, passed away, on Sunday, October 25, 2020, at his home.

He was born in Dermott, Arkansas, on November 9, 1957, to his parents, James and Tommie Mae McFalls Schlesier.  He grew up in Crossett, was a Baptist by faith, and attended Crossett High School.

For many years, Jay worked in the hospitality industry.

Among his employers were The Crossett Leisure Lodge, The Lakewood Inn, and the Oakhurst Minit Shop.

His hobbies included shopping for antiques, nurturing his flower garden, and home decorating.  He was a huge fan of Cher, Marilyn Monroe, and the classic TV shows such as “I Love Lucy” and “The Andy Griffith Show”, among others.  Jay could easily recite scripts from his favorite episodes, often right along with the actors.

He was outgoing, outspoken, and always genuine.  He loved his family dearly and was everyone’s friend.

Jay is preceded in death by his father, James E. Schlesier; his mother, Tommie Boggs; one brother, Jimmy Schlesier; and grandparents, Thomas and Birdie McFalls, and Ernest and Laura Bell Schlesier.

He is survived by his very special friend and partner, Marty Ellis of Monticello; one brother, Bill Schlesier of Crossett; one sister, Paula Beasley, and husband, Darryl, of Monroe, LA; one niece, Deane Johnson of Crossett; three nephews, Josh Newell of Monroe, LA, Craig Schlesier of Crossett, and Jeff Schlesier of Sterling, CO; a host of great-nieces and nephews, Alexandra Flowers-Sharp, Andie Johnson, Ivory Connour, and Kenneth, Haleigh, Ashleigh, and Lexi Schlesier; along with great-great nieces, Ella Sharp, and Kyleigh Miller; and one great-great-nephew, Jaxen Miller.

A Celebration of Life Graveside Memorial will be held at 12:00 noon, Thursday, October 29, at the Leek-Drake Cemetery in Star City with Rev. Sativa Carpenter officiating.
