It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Nelda Rose Carter Morse, a beloved mother, grandmother, and friend who departed this world peacefully at the age of 78. A lifelong resident of Crossett, she was known for her unwavering selflessness, always placing the needs of others above her own.
Nelda is preceded in death by her parents, Jesse Urban and Rosalie Carter, her loving husband, Charles Morse, a daughter, Melissa Morse, a grandson, Nicholas Gulledge, and a granddaughter, Mia Rose Hollis. Nelda was the devoted caregiver to her daughter, Melissa, until Melissa’s passing at the age of thirty-nine.
She dedicated much of her life to caring for others, beginning with her own mother, Rosalie, whose health had been poor since Nelda was a child, and her father Urban, who passed away when Nelda was only eighteen. Despite the challenges, Nelda was a strong and spunky woman who cared for her family with boundless love and patience, never wavering in her devotion or losing her sense of humor.
Before becoming a full-time mother and caregiver to her daughter, Nelda worked at First National Bank of Crossett, where she made many dear friends who remember her for her warmth and kindness. Her work and friendships brought her great joy, and she carried those memories with her throughout her life.
A talented seamstress, Nelda took considerable pride in her craft, even making her own wedding dress–a symbol of her skill, creativity, and dedication. In the rare moments when she had time to herself, she loved to read and explore new ideas, though her true joy came from caring for those around her.
Nelda is survived by her daughters, Cyndi Gulledge (John), and Stephanie Hollis (Chuck); along with special cousins, Celia Lamb, Janice Moffatt, Renee Stokes, and Gay Jackson. Her memory will live on through her cherished grandchildren, Rebecca (Larry) Freeman, Rhiannon Gulledge, and Chance Hollis, and her great grandchildren Cameron and Brendan Freeman.
For her entire life, Nelda was a devoted member of Magnolia Baptist Church, where her grandparents, Eva & W.C. Watson, were Charter Members. She faithfully attended services and found strength in her relationship with God. Her faith was her foundation throughout a life full of challenges, and she shared that faith through her actions, embodying the true spirit of Christ’s love.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 2:00 p.m., on Wednesday, September 11th, at Magnolia Baptist Church, 822 Marias Saline Rd, in Crossett, with Pastor Mike Griffith, officiating, followed by interment at Carter Cemetery under the direction of Medders Funeral Home of Crossett. Pallbearers are John Gulledge, Chuck Hollis, Lawrence Freeman, Jr., Chance Hollis, Brendan Freeman, and Bo Wright. Honorary pallbearers are Gerald Mercer, Charles Lamb, Larry Jackson, Danny Barton, Dale Rice, Wayne Moffatt, Willie Pierre, Ronald Rice, and Curtis Morse, Jr.
Visitation will be from 6:00-8:00 p.m., Tuesday, Sept. 10th, at Medders Funeral Home, 1564 Hwy 52 W, in Crossett.
