Nellie LaVerne Swan Obituary

Nellie LaVerne Swan, 85, of Crossett, passed away on Saturday, October 17, 2020, at the Life Touch Hospice Center in El Dorado.  She was born on February 19, 1935, to her parents, Charlie Abner, and Susie Anna Land Pamplin, in Parkdale, Arkansas, and was the youngest of 8 siblings. Laverne was a lifelong resident of Ashley County and a member of the First United Pentecostal Church.

For over 20 years, she worked at Davis Shirt Factory, starting as a shirt folder and advancing to inspector before retiring in the mid-’90s.

She enjoyed sewing, making crafts, and working in the garden until dark with her husband, Harold.

Laverne was friendly but always straightforward.  She had a heart of gold and would go out of her way to help anyone if they needed something.  She loved Jesus, her family, and her church and never hesitated to cook meals for her church family whenever needed.

Along with her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, Harold Swan; one daughter, Dianne Hartness; four brothers, Robert, Houston, Charlie, and William Pamplin; and four sisters, Eunice Akers, Bernice Greenway, Blance Cotton, and Ella Hunter.

She is survived by one son, David Harold Swan, of Pine Bluff; and one daughter, Vickie White and husband, Wayne, of Camden; six grandchildren, Andy, Brad, and Timmy White of Camden, Joey Walton of Crossett, and Michael and Philip Scroggins of Hot Springs; nine great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
