Paul Anthony "Tony" Meeks Obituary

Paul Anthony “Tony” Meeks, 55, of Hamburg, passed away on Wednesday, October 25, 2023, at his home surrounded by family.  Born on March 15, 1968, in Monticello, Arkansas, Tony was a proud lifelong resident of Ashley County.

Tony was a skilled and dedicated welder in the construction industry, a profession that led him to many places far and wide. His dedication to his work and the people he encountered during his travels left an indelible mark. He was not just a welder; he was a true craftsman, a man who took pride in every piece of work he touched.

However, it was not only his work that made Tony memorable, but also his warm and inviting personality. He was known for being a hugger, someone who embraced others with open arms, and it was this warmth that could instantly brighten any room he entered. Tony never met a stranger; his outgoing nature and his genuine interest in people ensured that he could strike up a conversation with anyone and make them feel at ease.

Beyond his profession and his social graces, Tony had a deep passion for the great outdoors. He found solace and joy in hunting and was an avid crappie fisherman. He would often spend countless hours on the water, reeling in the day's catch and teaching others the art of fishing. Tony's patience and his love for sharing his knowledge with those around him was truly special, leaving a lasting impact on those fortunate enough to have fished alongside him.

He is preceded in death by his father, Richard Glen “Dickie” Meeks, Sr.; his sister-in-law, Sonya Meeks; his former father-in-law and special friend, Bill Cason; four uncles, Larry Meeks, McRay Ware, Charlie Ware, and Ronnie Ware; and two aunts, Glenda Smith, and Brenda Ware.

He leaves behind his wife, Lizzie Shelton Meeks of Hamburg; six children, Tyler Meeks of Crossett, Bryson Meeks (Trish) of Paragould, AR, Ryne Axton of Ruston, LA, Hope Sharpe (Matt), Drew Grubbs, and Cason Meeks; his mother and stepfather, Diane and Eddie Black, and stepmother, Shirley Meeks all of Hamburg; along with three siblings, Rickie Meeks also of Hamburg; one sister, Danon Bauer (John) of Grenada, MS, and Shannon Black of Portland, OR; six grandchildren, Zayne, Haven, Rowdy, Hardin, Huxton, and Maverick; three nephews, Brandon Meeks, Justin McDougald, and Talan Carter; and one niece, Kensley Cross.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, October 28th, at Medders Funeral Home, 1564 Hwy 52 W, in Crossett, with Pastor Keith Boseman and Brandon Meeks, officiating, followed by interment at Carter Cemetery under the direction of Medders Funeral Home.  Pallbearers are Ralph Ware, Wayne Cruce, Talan Carter, Jeff Meeks, Chad Moffatt, CW Tyson, Bruce Meeks, and Matt Sharpe.  Honorary pallbearers are Pete Meeks, Todd Edwards, and the Burkes Mechanical Group.
