Revis L. "Red" Wells Obituary

Revis L. “Red” Wells, 87, of Crossett, passed away peacefully on Monday, March 11, 2024, surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Bernice, LA on October 28, 1936, to his parents, Revis O. and Vivian Lee Wells and was a graduate of Spearsville High School.

Red served honorably in the National Guard for six years and for forty-four years, Red dedicated himself to his career at Georgia Pacific as a general mechanic.

Outside of his professional life, Red enjoyed the simple pleasures of life. He had a passion for gardening which was evident in the vibrant vegetables he grew with care, always eager to share the fruits of his labor with his friends and family. A talented carpenter, he crafted exquisite furniture, decorative bowls, and various other items, many of which gained recognition at the Ashley County Fair, proudly displaying ribbons of accomplishment.

Though Red was a man of few words, his dry wit and kind heart endeared him to all who knew him. He was always ready to lend a helping hand, demonstrating his generosity and compassion without seeking recognition.

Devoted to his faith, Red was an active member and deacon of Beech Street Baptist Church, where his steadfast belief in Jesus Christ and his love for his family shone brightly. His faith was an anchor through life's trials, and his devotion, most certainly, inspired those around him.

Along with his parents, he is preceded in death by one son, Kent Blake Wells; and two brothers, Bobby Eugene Wells and Herbert Lee Wells.

He leaves behind his beloved wife of sixty-six years, Lessie Langley Wells of Crossett; and two children, Mark Steven Wells (Brenda) also of Crossett, and Nina Wells Stahley (Jim) of Hamburg; along with four granddaughters, Jaley Michelle Potts (Payden) and Kara Ann Wells both of Crossett, Jamie Stahley Mondragon (Michael) of Log Cabin, LA, and Kacy Wells Daley (Lane) of Hamburg; three great-grandchildren, Blake Michael Griffith, Brynlie Myka Griffith, and Maverick Charles Potts; and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 1:00 p.m., Thursday, March 14th at Beech Street Baptist Church, 500 Beech St. in Crossett, with Pastor Donnie Dubose, officiating, followed by interment at Crossroads Cemetery under the direction of Medders Funeral Home.  Pallbearers are Jeff Langley, Paul Sims, Clayte Wells, David Ethridge, Dr. Robert Garcia, Homer Courson, Michael Paul Griffith, Todd Langley, and Aubrey Wells.  Honorary pallbearers are Blake Griffith, Maverick Potts, Eddie Black, James Outlaw, Robbye Dildy, Mike Hollis, Dr. Luis Garcia, and the deacons of Beech Street Baptist Church.

Visitation will be from 6:00-8:00 p.m., Wednesday, at Medders Funeral Home, 1564 Hwy 52 W, in Crossett.
