Robert Roy Freeman, 81, of Crossett, Arkansas, passed away peacefully at his home on Monday, April 13, 2026, surrounded by his loving family and friends. He was born on January 2, 1945, in Monroe, Louisiana.
Before being deployed to Germany, Robert married Cindy Huntsman. After returning to the United States, Robert began working at Mechanisms Machine Shop. He and Cindy welcomed their first child, Robby Freeman, and six years later were blessed with twins, Jason and Justin Freeman.
Throughout his life, Robert devoted 28 years to coaching baseball and served 18 years as an active city council member. He also served as assistant district commissioner, assistant state commissioner, and regional director for Babe Ruth Baseball. He coached American Legion Baseball along with Babe Ruth Baseball with his record of 360 wins and only 80 losses. Robert was instrumental in starting the Boys and Girls Club in 1996 and received the highest volunteer award from the organization in 1999. He also played a key role in bringing the Crossett Sports Complex to the community and threw out the first pitch at its opening. Robert felt the call to ministry and was ordained in 1973 in the Church of Community of Christ. He enjoyed hunting and fishing, was a devoted Arkansas Razorbacks fan, and was known and loved as “Poppa” by his grandchildren and all those that loved him. He cherished his family with his whole heart.
He is preceded in death by his beloved wife of 58 years, Cindy, and four brothers and one sister.
Left to cherish his memory are his three sons, Robby Freeman, Jason Freeman (Amy), and Justin Freeman (Samantha); grandchildren, Samantha Sutton, Nora Stanish, Amanda DuBose, Maggie Goodwin, Lexie Ruth Freeman, Brooks (Daisy) Freeman, Robbi Jo Freeman, Stella Freeman, and Stetson Freeman; along with 14 great grandchildren and one sister; Mary Hockenberry of Luna, LA.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, April 18th at Medders Funeral Home in Crossett with Lisa Soignier, Laurie Tarver, and Mike Griffith officiating. Pallbearers are Dennis Maxwell, Tony Allen, Kenny Haynie, Chris Roan, Lewis Wood, and Chuck Brown.
Visitation will be from 6:00–8:00 p.m. on Friday, April 17th at Medders Funeral Home of Crossett.
