Robert “Lee” Watkins, 65, of Hamburg, passed away on Monday, November 28, 2022. He was born on July 29, 1957, to his parents, Marvin and Tenie Moran Watkins, was a lifelong resident of Ashley County, and a 1975 graduate of Hamburg High School.
Even as a young boy, Lee knew what he wanted. He wanted to live his life working in mechanics and spend his free time enjoying the outdoors.
Hunting, fishing, and frog gigging were among the many activities he enjoyed; however, working on vehicles, machinery, and other devices was, without question, his greatest talent. Regardless the item, there was literally nothing Lee could not fix. Reading instruction manuals and taking things apart only added to the challenge. His expertise landed him a job with the City of Jacksonville in Florida where after only three years, showcasing his skills, he was awarded the key to the city. He continued to be a successful self-employed mechanic for most of his life, along with another six years working as a mechanic for Ashley County.
Lee was a strong man with a loud presence. He was incredibly funny, often charming, and very protective over his family which he loved dearly, especially his grandchildren.
Along with his parents he is proceeded in death by one son, Robert Seth Watkins.
He leaves behind two children, Victoria Leigh Watkins of Hamburg, and Christopher Horn of Fountain Hill; one son-in-law, Chad Scales also of Hamburg and a special former daughter-in-law, Tasha Johnson of Strong; along with six grandchildren, Lauren Scales, Dreylon Scales, Robert Cade Watkins, Corbin Seth Watkins, Paige Hines, and Kacie Ward.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Friday, December 2nd, at Medders Funeral Home, 1564 Hwy 52 W, in Crossett, with Bro. Clayton Hale, officiating followed by interment at Cleveland Cemetery in Hamburg under the direction of Medders Funeral Home. Pallbearers are Austin Vestal, Jimmy Horn, Chad Scales, David Allison, Jason McDougald, Dreylon Scales, Christopher Horn, and Cade Watkins.
Visitation will be held from 1:00-2:00 p.m. prior to the service.
