Robert “Leo” Wright, 94, a lifelong resident of Crossett, passed away peacefully on Sunday, October 6, 2024. He was born on June 22, 1930, in Rye, Arkansas, and honorably served in the United States Navy during the Korean War.
Leo’s skills and dedication were evident in his career as a machinist, where he worked for several esteemed companies, including International Paper, Mechanisms, and Georgia Pacific, until his retirement in 1992.
Leo had a deep love for the outdoors and spent much of his free time crappie fishing and playing golf, activities he cherished throughout his life. His commitment to his community extended beyond his personal pursuits. Leo served as a former city council member and was a dedicated member of the Crossett Economic Development Committee, where he worked tirelessly to help improve his beloved town.
However, what Leo valued most was his role as an elder at the Pine Street Church of Christ, where he took great pride in serving his church family. He always put others first, showing a love and dedication to his church that was truly inspiring. His faith guided his actions, and his church community was one of the greatest joys of his life.
A devoted and loving father, Leo worked hard to provide for his family and ensure his wife and children were always cared for. He was firm yet fair, instilling in his children the values of integrity, responsibility, and kindness. Leo’s steadfast work ethic and selflessness were hallmarks of his character, and he took pride in being a provider and protector for those he loved.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Otha and Birdie Starks Wright; one brother, Van Wright; and one sister, Willie Jean Ezell Kemp.
He leaves behind his wife of seventy years, Nelda McKay Wright of Crossett; one son, Phil Wright of Sugar Hill, GA; and one daughter, Paula Aulds (Johnny) of Kirbyville, TX; along with a host of nieces, nephews, and church family who loved him dearly.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, October 10th, at the Pine Street Church of Christ, 301 Pine St, in Crossett, with Minister Jerry Martin, officiating, followed by interment at Crossroads Cemetery under the direction of Medders Funeral Home. Pallbearers are Lamar Gammel, Jerry Ray Hambrick, Barney White, Jimmy Launius, Billy Wayne Edwards, and Harry Joe Tumlison. Honorary pallbearers are Minister Jerry Martin, Joe Friend, and Tommy Pahal.
Visitation will be from 10:00-11:00 a.m., Thursday at the church prior to the service.
