Mr. Roosevelt Campbell, age 70, of Crossett, passed away Thursday, June 6, 2019, at the Ashley County Medical Center. He was born in Mer Rouge, LA on August 31, 1948, and resided in Crossett for most of his life. He was a member of New Bethel Missionary Baptist Church and worked for Georgia Pacific for forty-six years until he retired as a supervisor in 2014.
Roosevelt enjoyed coaching baseball, bowling, traveling, grilling, frying fish, and watching his grandchildren play sports. He was an extremely smart and quick-witted man who loved his family and was always there for them.
He is preceded in death by his father, Mose Owens, his wife, DeLois Campbell, and one brother, Jimmy Greeley.
He is survived by his two sons, Derrick Campbell and wife, Carol, of Crossett, and Jamaal Campbell and wife, Marquita, of Little Rock; his mother, Ms. Willie Mae Owens of Merced, CA; ten siblings, David Owens and wife, Debra, of Milford, NH, Joe Owens and wife, Jan, of Merced, CA, Kenny Owens of Sparks, NV, Wilma Owens of Merced, CA, Bernice Howard and husband, Harold, of San Diego, CA, Connie Patton and husband, Victor, of Fresno, CA, Rosemary Griffin of Bremerton, WA, Michelle Owens of Rancho Cordova, CA, Betty White and husband, Rayfus, of Compton, CA, his sister in-law, Elinor Greeley of Bastrop, LA; four grandchildren, Derius, Cierra, Bryce, and Bryson; a host of nieces and nephews; and a very special friend, Lois Newton, who loved him dearly.
Funeral Service will be at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, June 15th at New Bethel Missionary Baptist Church, 309 N Georgia St, Crossett, with Elder Rodney Henderson officiating, followed by interment at Westview Cemetery under the direction of Medders Funeral Home. Pallbearers are Mr. Robert Wilson, Mr. Lee Fred Brown, Mr. Eddie Hawkins, Mr. Donald Streeter, Mr. Archie Jones, and Mr. James Martin. Honorary pallbearers are Mr. Carvin Jones, Mr. David Childress, Mr. Harvey Duke, Mr. Mike Streeter, Mr. Eddie Austin, Mr. Thad Douglass, Jan Dawson, Tracy Leichman, and Chad Newton.
Visitation will be from 6:00-8:00 p.m., Friday, June 14th at Medders Funeral Home, 1564 Hwy 52 W, Crossett.
