Shane Douglas Switzer, age 47, of Crossett, found peace on Friday, May 15. Shane was born in Crossett on March 19, 1979, to Bruce and Norma Sue Switzer. Shane was a skilled carpenter who found purpose and pride in working with his hands. Whether fixing, building, or creating, he had a natural skill that reflected both patience and determination.
Shane found his greatest peace outdoors: hunting, fishing, gardening, and exploring his heritage along Petersburg Trail. These were more than hobbies to him–they were traditions, moments of reflection, and ways he connected with nature and with those he cared about. The woods, the water, and the quiet they offered were places where his spirit thrived.
Above all, Shane loved his family. He shared an especially close bond with his mother, helping her with Sunday lunch, bringing her flowers he grew for her, and caring for her with respect and tenderness that reflected the depth of his character.
In recent years, Shane lived more quietly, facing personal struggles with mental health. Though these challenges shaped parts of his later life, they never defined the man he was at his core–kind, capable, and deeply loved. He continued to honor his mother in simple ways by keeping her hummingbird feeders full, the dog food prepared, and taking on numerous other tasks to show how much he loved her.
Shane will be remembered for his steady presence, his capable hands, and his generous heart. His spirit lives on in the lives he touched and the love he gave so freely.
He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Ovid. T. Switzer, Sr. and Marguerite Taylor Switzer, his maternal grandparents, Normie W. Johnson and Mary Louise Reid Johnson, and an infant brother, Douglas Allen Switzer.
He was survived by his parents, Bruce Douglas Switzer and Norma Sue Switzer; his sisters, Leslie Switzer and Laurie Switzer Foote; his niece, Cassidy Mansur; his nephews, Reid Mansur, Connor Foote, and Porter Foote; and his great uncle, Ovid T. Switzer, Jr., along with numerous cousins and “friends that feel like family” a/k/a The Bearhouse Crew.
A Joint Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, May 23rd, at the First United Methodist Church, 500 Main St, in Crossett, with Rev. Matt Daniels, officiating.
Visitation will be from 1:00-2:00 p.m., in the church fellowship hall, prior to the service.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Methodist Family Health, or you may honor his legacy by cherishing and spending time with your loved ones.
