Shirley Ann Norrell, 86, of Crossett, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, July 2, 2024, at her home surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Huttig, Arkansas, on May 13, 1938, to her parents, Woodie and Minnie Freeman Smith.
Professionally, Shirley dedicated twenty-eight years of service at the Georgia Pacific Extrusion Plant.
In high school, she excelled in basketball, a testament to her athleticism and competitive spirit. Shirley was also a devoted member of the Cloverdale Assembly of God Church, and her faith played a significant role throughout her life.
Beyond her career and church life, Shirley found immense joy in cheering for the Arkansas Razorback football and basketball teams. She cherished these moments as they brought her together with loved ones, creating cherished memories that she held dear.
Above all, Shirley's greatest joy was her family. She found immense happiness in watching her grandchildren grow and thrive. Her unconditional love and support were unwavering, and her family was the cornerstone of her life.
She is preceded in death by her parents; one daughter, Carol Lynn Spurlock; six siblings, Nina DeShazo, Maudine Little, Amelia Vance, Bill Smith, Jerry Smith, and Gene “Pug” Smith; one great-granddaughter, Felisha Smith; and one daughter-in-law, Lois Ann Murphy.
She leaves behind eight children, Lamar Smith (Nancy) of Morrilton, AR; Jack Murphy of Bastrop, TX, Pete Murphy (Martha), Donnie Murphy, and Paula Cameron all of Crossett, Sandy Mee (Jeff) of Haskel, AR, Mike Norrell of Little Rock, AR, and Beverly Land (Drayton) of El Dorado, AR; along with one sister, Barbara Sue Pace of Marion, LA; and a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.
A Celebration of Life Graveside Service will be held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, July 6th, at Crossroads Cemetery with Bro. Jerry Martin and Drayton Land officiating.
Visitation will be from 9:00-10:00 a.m. at Medders Funeral Home, prior to the service.
