Steve Haygood, 60, a lifelong resident of Crossett, passed away on Monday, October 23, 2023. He was born on July 25, 1963, and was a member of the Cloverdale Assembly of God Church.
He was a proud 1981 graduate of Crossett High School with a passion for sports, playing both football and baseball in his formative years. Throughout his life, he remained a devoted fan of the Arkansas Razorbacks and the Dallas Cowboys, cheering for his teams with unwavering enthusiasm.
For eighteen years, Steve worked for Georgia Pacific and eventually at Steve’s Body and Frame where he forged numerous lasting friendships. In pursuit of knowledge, Steve earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology from the University of Arkansas at Monticello and was working towards his master’s degree in social work before his health declined.
In his leisure time, Steve enjoyed deer hunting, but it was crappie fishing that brought him the most joy. Spending hours in a boat, jigging rods, setting hooks, and watching the sunlight as it danced across the water provided him with relaxation and tranquility that only God could provide.
Steve’s heart was as big as his dreams. It was evident in his loving commitment to his family. He married his soulmate who brought five wonderful children into his life, which he loved and proudly called his own. He was not just a loving husband, father, brother, and son, but a cherished friend. His devotion and sense of humor made him a beloved figure and his memory will live on in the hearts of all who were privileged to know him.
He is preceded in death by his father, Jerald Wayne Haygood, and one son, Jerrick Sellers.
He leaves behind his loving wife of thirty years, Sonya Peterson Haygood; seven children, Lee, Tiffany, and Whitney Sellers, Brittney Reeves, Alaizia, and Alyssa Haygood, and Layla Sellers; along with his mother, Linda Haygood; two brothers, John Haygood (Terri), and Mike Haygood; six grandchildren, Maddie, Corbin, Bailey, Daxe, Drayton, and Willow; and a host of friends and other relatives.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Friday, October 27th, at the Cloverdale Assembly of God Church, 132 Ashley Rd 15, in Crossett, with Pastor David Williams and Bro. Wes Miller, officiating, followed by interment at Crossroads Cemetery under the direction of Medders Funeral Home. Pallbearers are Paul Weems, Mike Chisholm, Curt Cagle, Johnny Johnson, Wendell Deal, and Bob Tuggle.
