Thomas "Gene" Eugene Roberts

Thomas “Gene” Roberts, 80, of Hamburg, passed away on Tuesday, April 28, 2026.  He was born on July 19, 1945, was a lifelong resident of Ashley County, and member of Mount Pleasant Freewill Baptist Church.

Gene spent forty-three years working at Georgia-Pacific, where he made an honest living and earned the respect of those around him. He was steady, dependable, and believed in doing things right the first time.

When he wasn’t working, Gene was most at home outdoors. He loved being in the woods hunting, out on the water fishing, or just soaking in the quiet that comes with country life. He never missed a chance to spend time with his people, whether it was sitting and talking, checking in on a friend, or gathering up for a good family reunion filled with laughter and stories.

At an early age, Gene became a Christian, and his faith was unwavering. He enjoyed going to church and often could be heard humming or singing old gospel songs around the house.

Gene would want folks to remember that life’s too short to keep putting off today while waiting on tomorrow.

He is preceded in death by his loving wife of fifty-eight years, Sharon Yvonna Roberts; his parents, Thomas and Mattalene Clark Roberts, and his sister, Martia Roberts.

He leaves behind two sons, Doug Roberts (Susan) and Randy Roberts(Lisa); three brothers, Harold Roberts (Martha),Billy Roberts (Jeanie), and Mike Roberts (Carol); and one sister, Carolyn Harlan; along with three grandchildren, Jake, Heather, and Amanda; one great-granddaughter; and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, April 30th, at Medders Funeral Home, 1564 Hwy 52 W, in Crossett, with Bro. Keith Boseman, officiating, followed by interment at Crossroads Cemetery under the direction of Medders Funeral Home.

Visitation will be from 1:00-2:00 p.m., at the funeral home prior to the service.

In lieu of flowers, donations are encouraged to be made to Mount Pleasant Freewill Baptist Church in his memory.
