Travis Brantley Obituary

Mr. Travis Fulton “Little Brother” Brantley, 98, of Crossett, passed away on May 5, 2021.  He died at home just a few steps from where he was born on September 10, 1922.  He was born to Elmer Hudson and Minnie Etta Brantley.  He was raised on the family farm with eight sisters and two brothers, all of which preceded him in death.  He is also preceded in death by his wife, Edith Faye Standard Brantley, two grandsons, Ethan and Lance Brantley, and one granddaughter, Kristi Brennon Sass.

Everyone knew him as a work-a-holic.  He worked for Georgia Pacific for forty years and always had side jobs.  He loved to hunt and fish and would stay from daylight to dark.  He found the perfect fishing partner in Mike Shirley and fished as long as he could, well into his nineties.  He was also in the United States Army Air Corp during World War II and was a member of Mt. Olive Baptist Church his entire life.  His family would walk a path through the woods to get to the old church.  He had some funny stories about being locked in once after falling asleep.  He loved his church and only stopped going when he realized he was misunderstanding much that was being said.

He is survived by three daughters, Cora Geels, Wanda Brennon (Eddie), and Tina Maxwell (Keith); six sons, Alvin (Patti), Travis (Julie), Roger (Marilyn), Tony (Barbie), Darren (Amy), and Ricky Brantley.  He is also survived by fourteen grandchildren, twenty-three great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren.

The family requests in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Simms Cemetery fund.  Thank you to Hospice Homecare and the volunteers from Intefor for all their help and support.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, May 8, at Mt. Olive Baptist Church, 1533 Hwy 52 W, in Crossett, with Bro. Doug Hibbard, officiating, followed by interment at Simms Cemetery under the direction of Medders Funeral Home.  Pallbearers are Mike Shirley, Eugene Burnett, Ronnie Lochala, Keith Gardner, Larry Land, and Steve Hebert.
