Treswell Carter, Sr. Obituary

Treswell Simpson Carter Sr., 91, of Hamburg, Arkansas, passed away on Saturday, March 29, 2025. He was born on April 6, 1933, in Hamburg to Wyatt and Zelma Wallace Carter.

A dedicated and hardworking man, Treswell was a self-employed wood moulder with exceptional wood moulding skills. He worked in maintenance at Bemis Bag Company, now Hood Packaging, for 12 years before retiring in 1995. His craftsmanship was showcased in the moulding he created for Fox and Jacobs home builders in Texas and in Mt. Olive Baptist Church of Crossett.

Beyond his work, Treswell found joy in the great outdoors. A proud member of the Little Carter Camp, he was an avid deer hunter and trapper. He also had a passion for fishing and vegetable gardening, always finding a way to plant something wherever he could. He and his beloved wife, Joyce, spent their retirement truck patching, tending to their gardens, and selling their produce. If there was an inch of dirt, Treswell would find a way to put a seed in it.

He was also well known for raising pigs and making some of the best pork sausage around. Even after suffering a stroke at 80, he remained a strong and determined man, never letting life slow him down too much. His toughness, hard work, and wisdom shaped the lives of those around him. He was a man who meant what he said, who led by example, and who instilled the values of perseverance and dedication in his family.

Treswell was preceded in death by his parents; his beloved wife, Joyce; and numerous siblings.

He is survived by his children: Treswell Ronnie Carter of Hockley, Texas; Ricky Simpson Carter (Joann) of Prairieville, Louisiana; Steven Curtis Carter (Theresa) of French Settlement, Louisiana; Becky Carter Davis (Raymond) of Hamburg, Arkansas; Treswell Simpson Carter, Jr. of Crossett, Arkansas; and George Michael Carter (Debra) of Beekman, Louisiana. He also leaves behind his siblings: Jeanette Collins of Tyler, Texas; Elizabeth Tillerson (Don) of McKinney, Texas; Billy Anderson Carter (Ann) of Houston, Texas; and Robert Carter (Janice) of Houston, Texas.

He is also survived by a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren who will carry on his legacy of hard work, resilience, and love for the land.
