Wallace Beck Obituary

Wallace Edward Beck, 82, of Crossett, passed away Saturday, February 16, 2019.  He was born in Warren, AR on April 29, 1936, to his parents, William Everett and Mary Eva Turner Beck.  After graduating from Vick High School in 1954, he soon moved to Crossett and became a charter member of Second Baptist Church.

In 1958, he married his sweetheart, Mary Jane Childers, and began a career as an electrician, which continued for nearly forty years.  During that time, he worked for the Crossett Sawmill, Crossett Utilities, AP&L, and Entergy, where he eventually retired in the late 90’s.

Wallace was a generous man not only with his money, but his time.  He was often the one, friends and family called to ask for advice and always willing to help whenever he could.

He enjoyed fishing, gardening, sitting in his swing, and tinkering with things whether they were broken or not.  He loved figuring out how things worked and feeding Sam, the dog, Pepsi, who was always by his side.

He had a dry wit, was quiet, only speaking when he had something important to say and when he prayed, he humbly spoke directly and intimately to God.

He is preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Mary Jane Childers Beck, three brothers, Harold Beck, Kenneth Beck, and Ray Beck; one sister, Florence Green; and one sister in-law, Elizabeth Beck.

He is survived by two daughters, Connie Jordan and husband, Paul, and Karen Harrington and husband, Robbie, all of Crossett; one sister, Ann Kendrick of Stephenville, TX; one granddaughter, Jane Marie Jordan Austin and husband, Dan, of Paragould, AR; one great-granddaughter, Bethany “Beth” Grace Austin also of Paragould; two sisters in-law, Ramona Savage and Pat Lunsford Fletcher both of Crossett; one special nephew, Jason Savage of Lake Village; and one niece, Lynn Bounds of Bearden, AR.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, February 19th at Second Baptist Church, Hwy 169 S, Crossett, with Pastor Lloyd Townsend officiating, followed by an interment at Crossroads Cemetery under the direction of Medders Funeral Home.
